چکیده

Here, we report results from psychophysical experiments aimed to assess the performance of the Samsung OLED display as contrasted to that of a typical LCD display in the context of high-dynamic range (HDR) image rendering. Our test scenes depict ”blobbie” objects embedded in an environment that contains regions with strong shadows. In the assessments described here we examined 8 variations of the scene: 2 variations in the geometry of the blobbies, and 4 variations in the specular properties of the blobbie surface material.

Anisotropic Diffusion for Details Enhancement in Multi-Exposure Image Fusion

We develop a multiexposure image fusion method based on texture features, which exploits the edge preserving and intraregion smoothing property of nonlinear diffusion filters based on partial differential equations (PDE). With the captured multi-exposure image series, we first decompose images into base layers and detail layers to extract sharp details and fine details, respectively. The magnit...

Neural Monitoring With CMOS Image Sensors

Implantable image sensors have several biomedical applications due to their miniature size, light weight, and low power consumption achieved through sub-micron standard CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technologies. The main applications are in specific cell labeling, neural activity detection, and biomedical imaging. In this paper the recent research studies on implantable CMOS i...

Design of a tone mapping operator for high-dynamic range images based upon psychophysical evaluation and preference mapping

A tone mapping algorithm for displaying high contrast scenes was designed on the basis of the results of experimental tests using human subjects. Systematic perceptual evaluation of several existing tone mapping techniques revealed that the most “natural” appearance was determined by the presence in the output image of detailed scenery features often made visible by limiting contrast and by pro...

Rendering Non-Pictorial (Scientific) High Dynamic Range Images

This research integrates the techniques used for the display of high dynamic range pictorial imagery for the practical visualization of non-pictorial (scientific) imagery such as remote sensing, medical imaging, astronomical imaging, etc. for data mining and interpretation. Nine algorithms were utilized to overcome the problem associated with rendering high dynamic range image data to low dynam...

Image Forensics of High Dynamic Range Imaging

This paper introduces a novel area of research to the Image Forensic field; identifying High Dynamic Range (HDR) digital images. We create a test set of images that are a combination of HDR and standard images of similar scenes. We also propose a scheme to isolate fingerprints of the HDR-induced haloing artifact at “strong” edge positions, and present experimental results in extracting suitable...
